This week, we were given all the different challenges to choose from for 2 of the modules that we are to take for Year 2 Semester 2. The 2 modules consist of Full-Stack Development (FSD) and Portfolio 2 (P2). We are to make use of what we have learnt in FSD and put it to use for P2 when we tackle which ever challenge, we choose.

The challenges are:

1. Saving Lives in a Flu Pandemic

2. Smart City for the Elderly

3. Smart Campus Solutions

4. Innovative Solutions for Social Interactions

5. Healthy Living

After reading through all the different challenges, I decided to choose the first challenge, Saving Lives in a Flu Pandemic as I felt that I could come up with a solution for this challenge.

After the challenges were out, I heard many of my friends wanting to go for other challenges that were different from the challenge that I was interested in. I was a little worried as I was not sure who I would group within the class when the time came. Would we work well together? What if their working style is different from mine?

However, to my surprise the next time I went to class, some of my friends were there. As a result, I was excited for this module as it felt safe to know that I would have my friends to group with. But to our displeasure, we were not able to choose our own group mates. Instead, we were given an activity to do to choose our group mates.

We all had to write down our solution for this challenge and we had to vote for the solution that was the best in our opinion. Once done, the top 5 voted solutions, the person who came up with the idea, would become the leaders of the 5 groups. The leaders are then invited to go outside to wait, while the rest of us are to write down our strengths and weaknesses on a card. The leaders are then required to pick the card corresponding to the strengths and weaknesses. Those chosen by the leader would form one group with the leader.

Fortunately, I was able to group with my friends. It was good because we knew each other and were already comfortable with one another. However, being group with your friends might not necessarily be a good thing as well as our working style might not be the same and conflicts may arise. Hopefully our group is able to work well together and our project would be a success.

After the group was formed, we planned out the steps needed to take before we can kickstart the project. Janine and I were given the task to do research on past pandemics to better know and understand pandemics. Janine has a friend who is in Nursing, so we decided to do an interview with her regarding a pandemic and things related to the situation.
